Education, Award and Activity
In 2000, Lianne obtained an NVQ level three in Diagnostic and Therapeutic support.
In 2002, she studied Traditional Acupuncture at the University of Lincoln where she obtained a First Class (Hons) degree in Complementary Medicine, specialising in traditional Chinese Medical Acupuncture.
Health Care Studies
In 2005, Lianne obtained an award and prize for Studies in Health, awarded by Professor B. McGaw BSc Hons, Ph.D., C. Biol, C. Chem, FRSC, C, Sci. Dean of The Faculty of Health, Life and Social Sciences at the Univeristy of Lincoln.
BSc Research Project
Her qualitative research conducted on 'The Therapeutic Relationship' is published by Palgrave in 'Professional Perspectives in Health Care', edited by Carol Wilkinson, USA, 2006.
Also in 2006, Lianne qualified in Chinese patent herbal medicine at The Northern College of Acupuncture. Lianne has a diploma in ayurveda therapy.
Lianne has many years’ experience of teaching acupuncture clinical practice. In 2008, she was invited by the University of Lincoln’s acupuncture programme leader to join their team as their BSc Hons Acupuncture Clinical Supervisor where she taught for 8 years.
Lianne has qualification in Advanced Acupuncture, certified in 2009 at the Guangdong Province Second Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which is affiliated with the Hospital of GuangZhou University of Chinese Medicine, China.
She obtained a distinction for a Masters of Arts (MA) module 'Reading Chinese Medical Classics' - a specialist module offered by The College of Traditional Acupuncture (CTA) postgraduate education department affiliated with Oxford Brookes University, UK, 2009.
In 2012, she was invited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB) to be the Accreditation Observer and Reporter for the accreditation of a Master of Science (MSc) course in Chinese Acupuncture, London.
Acupuncture Guest Lecturer Fertility, Pregnancy and IVF
Lianne is also a visiting guest lecturer to undergraduate MSc and BSc students on the use of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture in the treatment and management of infertility and IVF.
She is co-author of a best selling international textbook for acupuncturists entitled 'Acupuncture for IVF and Assisted Reproduction: An Integrated Approach to Treatment Management.'
Lianne has published in the Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine/Journal of Chinese Medicine, and is a Contributing News Columnist for the Acupuncture Now Foundation (ANF) USA.
Lianne's recent research consisted of the exploration of Stigma surrounding subfertility in society and healthcare. Also subfertility and Chronic Illness. Lianne outlines implications and recommends management strategies as well as the recommendation of future healthcare and service research.
Lianne is scheduled to present her work and findings internationally on the Psychological Effects of Subfertility and Fertility Treatment in Sept 2016. The abstract outlining this project was published in the European Journal of Integrated Medicine Dec 2016.
Acupuncture Academic Teaching Activity
Lianne currently is a MSc Research Supervisor and Acupuncture Online Tutor at the Northern College of Acupuncture, York, for the Online Global MSc in Advanced Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Health Research Qualification
Lianne Aquilina was awarded a Master of Science (MSc) Applied Health Research from the Health Science Department of the University of York, UK 2017.
International Visit 2017 Italy Congress
October 2017 Lianne Aquilina and her colleague Irina Szmelskyj were invited speakers at the 6th Congress on infertility and IVF, in Italy.
